NOVEMBER 10: LAST DAY IN EASTERN AUSTRALIA!

We have reached the very last day here in Lorne west of Melbourne. Lorne is the surfing capital of Australia. We have watched - not tried :-) Lots of people were practicing all the time in front of our balcony. 

Lorne is a real holiday resort with lots of hotels, motels, restaurants, cafes, etc. The famous Great Ocean Road is going right through the town. It was built to commemorate Australia's enormous sacrificies during World War I.  The end of WWI will be celebrated here tomorrow, November 11, as in many other countries like Belgium, France and United Kingdom.

My silence the last few days has two reasons:  

1. That the internet is having a frequent and long nap in this area :-(  

2. That some food in a local restaurant in the Outback flattened me for a few days.   I am back in full swing again (almost). The internet is not.  I will try, though, to sneak out this message while the net has one of its few good moments!

Tonight we will arrive in Perth - about 4000 km west of here. We will be picked up by our two lovely grand daughters Anna Maria (11) and Zoe ( 7 ) and their dad Nikos. In the meantime Cecilie will prepare a lovely meal to celebrate our get-together and to plan our coming 12 days.

DAY 4 ON THE PACIFIC: MORE PLEASURE - MORE REFLECTION

This is our 12th cruise, since we started our cruise career in 2005. It is by far the longest one. And the first one totally on the other side of the globe.  And as the days pass we get more and more used to do nothing. And if we do not finished one day, we just continue the day after!  Yes, it is Pure holiday!  When we get home we perhaps have to be retrained in many daily tasks such as cooking when Liselotte is concerned :-) Our dinner waitors are second to none: Konang from Indonesia and John from the Philippines. Our Indian bar waitor is very much on his toes too. But when he last night after we had had our usual couple of glasses of Pinot Grigio and Merlot suddenly without us asking for it brought us two bottles of cold water we wondered why. We had actually planned to ask for two such bottles to bring to our cabin. OCTOBER 29: NOW IN SWINGING SYDNEY !

This morning very early we arrived to SYDNEY. The city which has its name from a British politician in the 18th century, who got the idea to send British prisoners to this part of the world on a one-way ticket. It is with its 6 million inhabitants the biggest city in Australia. And with its geographical position at the ocean and at a river it is a very beautiful city. Not least now with lovely spring ( today with 29 degrees ) and with thousands of the blue Jacaranda trees in full bloom. We are for three days staying at a small elegant hotel in the hilly area next to Sydney harbour - opposite to the city centre. A small convenient ferry takes us in ten minutes across the harbour to the centre - passing very closely to the magnificent Sydney Opera House.

LESSONS FROM OUR WORLD TOUR FOR 2 MONTHS !!

Happily back home in our own nice country Belgium it is time to think about all the many things we have experienced during our 65.000 km long journey around the globe.  It will take time to digest it all. So many different things. So many different people. So many different land- and "sea-scapes!.  How can you at all make a conclusion about all that?!  You can't!     But you can try. Our overall conclusion is that it was a fantastic trip.  A long trip, yes. But not too long. And not too difficult at any time.  We got so much used to having everything done for us that it will be difficult to come back to "polite self service"!  But we will manage :-) If you ask for more specific lessons from our journey we will mention these ones: 1. It is fascinating all the time to travel in the same direction as the sun . This makes possible jetlags easier to manage.  And you only have to adjust your watch now and then, not all the time.  In the middle of all of it we passed
